Make your career in Information Technology(IT)
Today IT field is one of the fastest growing industry and every Parents wants their children to become an Computer Engineer and work in top notch IT companies like Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Accenture etc. Even all the Computer Engineer Graduate have the same opinion. But mind me IT industry is so vast and very diversified in terms of what you want to become while working in this companies. The IT industry is divided into various domain namely.
Testing
This department deals with Quality Assurance Testing where in the product is fully tested for any bugs and defect before delivering the product to the client. For doing Testing you should have some basic knowledge of using computer, Microsoft Office/Open Office for creating reports. The scope is not very much in testing as far as Pay Package is concerned but if you are looking for a job where in you do not want to take much stress then this field would be a very good option. Every IT companies have QA department unless the company is soo small that the programmers do all the testing. The testing team is responsible for testing any application made in any computer language. They are not restricted to particular software or product unless the company wishes so.
Product Development/Engineering
This is one of the most popular field in IT industry also called as “Programming” field. This field can be divided into no of category depending on the complexity the person wants to enter. The various category are:
- Internet E-commerce
Nowadays having a website is very much common for all the companies to make a global presence. Internet have now become a global sharing community where all people meet through Photo Sharing Websites, Social Networking Websites, Chatting etc. To maintain and develop this websites you need to know Server side Programming languages like JSP(Java Server Pages), Asp.Net, C#, PHP, ASP. Apart from these you should have knowledge of HTML which forms the core for writing any website pages. The schedule are pretty hectic in this category and amount of work depends on the type of website you are developing. To reach the top level in the Internet Domain you should be the master of any one Server Side Programming language. The pay - packages depends upon two factor.
Company in which you want to work is product based.
Company in which you want to work is client based.
The Product based company refers to the company which are developing and maintaining their own product i.e. own website. Example: www.yahoo.com
The client based company refers to company who takes product development project from the clients or you can say “consultancy company“.Example: Accenture
- Banking and Financial
Here you develop application for banks, the application may vary from ATM Machine, Online Bank Transaction and Financial Software to maintain their customer details. Usually high end programming language like Java, .Net, C, C++ and even VC++ are used to developed this application. This field is highly challenging and give very good scope in terms of High Pay Package, Abroad Travel if the banks have branches abroad and you have to work at client end.
- Mainframes
Mainframes computer handles high complex processing data. This computer is required to handle thousands of request in a second. This feild demands people with very high logic thinking knowledge who can write complex processing code. This field demands C, C++, COBOL, JAVA, Tandem programming language.
- Desktop based Application
This forms all the desktop based application like Microsoft Office, WinZip, Winamp. This is an very exciting field and you always learn something new in every projects. The programming languages are limited.
- Game Development
Nowadays computer games have so much popular with 3D graphics and reaching wide audience. Developing games is one of very complex task in IT industry and it require lot of programming skills and very good logical thinking. It involves the co-ordination of Graphics and Programming elements. This field demand knowledge of C,C++. Acknowledge of DirectX in always an added advantage.
- Management
They are responsible for managing the resource and delivering the output to the client. The people that come under management are Project Manager, Product Manager, Sr Project Manager, Sr Product Manager, Software Architect, Business Analyst. This fields demands an MBA degree or requires high amount of experience in IT industry with minimum 7 - 8 years.
